/Users/zengrong/Desktop/111.jpgLama Temple was originally used as the royal residence of Prince Yongzheng during the 33rd year (1694) of Emperor Kangxi's reign of the Qing dynasty (1644-1911). In the 3rd year of Yongzheng's reign (1725), it was elevated to imperial palace for short stays away from the Forbidden City with the name changed to Palace of Peace and Harmony (Yonghegong). During the 9th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign (1477), it was change into Lama Temple. The Hall of Boundless Happiness is the biggest building of Lama Temple; there stands a famous huge statue of Buddha, 26 meters high carved out of one single piece of sandalwood.

Located in the southwest of the Drum Tower in beautiful surroundings, Shicha Lake has a history of about 700 years in the Yuan Dynasty (1279-1368). It assumed its present name in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Strolling along its shoreline, the visitor can appreciate the lake’s glimmering blue water, its graceful weeping willows, its twisting railings and the flower-and-tree-covered central island.

Shichahai Scenic Zone encompasses 146.7 hectares (362.5 acres). The Zone is the only area in the city center with vast open waters, comprises Xihai (West Lake), Houhai (Back or Rear Lake) and Qianhai (Front Lake) lakes. More than 40 units for protection of historical relics are located, including the former residence of honorary president of People’s Republic of China Song Qingling(1893-1981); Guo Moruo(1892-1978) Museum, which is devoted to the famous writer, poet and historian; and Guanghua Temple.

dac8c3ea32.gifHutong is the name given to a lane or small street that originated during the Yuan Dynasty (1271–1368). In the past, Beijing was composed of hundreds of courtyards around the Forbidden City, and Hutongs stretched out in all four directions, connecting the different kinds of courtyards in the city. Now they have become representatives of local culture, thus it is a good choice for people to learn about the history and culture of Beijing.
